Sojitz Acquires Full Ownership of TRY Inc., a Major Processor and Seller of Frozen Tuna – Expanding the Functions of the Processed Marine Products Business –

Sojitz Corporation (“Sojitz”) has increased its existing 10% stake in TRY Inc. (Head Office: Shizuoka-shi, Shizuoka; “TRY”) to acquire full ownership of the company, which is engaged in the sale and processing of super frozen tuna.

By making TRY a fully owned subsidiary, Sojitz will add new domestic processing capabilities to its existing tuna farming and overseas processing operations in order to further expand its functions in marine product processing and realize new product proposals both in Japan and overseas.

Established in 1988, TRY currently serves as an industry leader that handles 26,000 tons of super frozen tuna annually and possesses an integrated system for supply, processing, sales, distribution, and quality assurance.

TRY has established an ultra-low temperature (below -50℃) cold chain logistics system to distribute high-quality tuna in Japan. Additionally, TRY has two factories which have received HACCP certification* for exports to the U.S. and  the European Union. TRY has a diverse customer base of over 300 companies including wholesale and sushi restaurant chains. Leveraging its industry expertise and information gathering capabilities, TRY has built a system that ensures the provision of quality tuna  serving any portions and specifications suitable for customer needs.
 

Rising health awareness is expected to lead to continued global expansion of the marine products market for sushi restaurants chains and general merchandise stores. Sojitz Group has been engaged in the super frozen tuna processing sales business since 2003 through Dalian Global Food Corporation and in 2008 started Sojitz Tuna Farm Takashima Co., Ltd., a tuna farming business. In 2022, Sojitz made The Marine Foods Corporation a fully owned subsidiary. Sojitz aims to strengthen its processed marine products businesses, including tuna, through joint collaboration with these companies on marine product processing and sales.

* Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP): A method of food safety management in which food business operators analyze hazard points such as contamination with food poisoning bacteria or a foreign substance and eliminate or reduce these hazard points within the entire production process, which includes everything from the delivery of raw materials to shipment of the finished product.
