Sojitz Corporation (“Sojitz”), Japan Airport Terminal Co., Ltd. (“Japan Airport Terminal”), Japan Overseas Infrastructure Investment Corporation for Transport & Urban Development (“JOIN”), and the government of the Republic of Palau established Palau International Airport Corporation (“PIAC”) and have completed renovation and expansion on a new airport terminal facility which began construction on April 14th, 2019. The grand opening ceremony to celebrate completion of the new terminal was held on May 8th, 2022.
This project marks Palau’s first PPP infrastructure project which serves as a symbol of Palau and Japan’s partnership. The opening ceremony for the new airport terminal was attended by Palau’s President Surangel S. Whipps, Jr., Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi of MOFA, President and COO Nobuaki Yokota of Japan Airport Terminal, Senior Executive Managing Director Fumio Inagawa of JOIN, and Representative Director and Vice President Ryutaro Hirai from Sojitz.

The new terminal at Palau International Airport incorporates symbols of Palau’s beautiful natural landscape with the Blue Corner and Rock Islands as design motifs. All visitors to the airport will experience Palau’s island atmosphere.
Through this project, Sojitz aims to work together with Japan Airport Terminal and JOIN to contribute to the sustainable development of Palau’s tourism-based economy and society.
