Sojitz Corporation (“Sojitz”) has acquired a 33.46% stake in TDA Holdings B.V. (“TDA”), the parent company to aircraft parts distributor Touchdown Aviation B.V. based in the Netherlands. After reaching an agreement with TDA’s management and existing shareholders, Sojitz acquired the shares on October 15th, 2020.

TDA’s business involves selling parts obtained from disassembled used aircraft. The aircraft parts sold by the company are then used for regular aircraft maintenance by airlines and/or maintenance companies, which contributes to lower maintenance costs. Additionally, by reusing parts from retired aircrafts, TDA lowers the industry’s environmental burden.

While the number of retired aircrafts is expected to increase in the future, aircraft maintenance will still be necessary. Effective use of aircraft used parts obtained from disassembled aircraft will lower the costs for airline and protect the environment.

In the commercial aviation industry, Sojitz’s operation cover the whole aircraft value chain as a sales agent for new aircraft, operating lease and trading business of used aircraft, and part-out business for aged aircraft. This investment in TDA aims to strengthen the part-out business further, expanding Sojitz’s business in the aftermarket. Through this partnership, Sojitz will contribute to the recovery and revitalization of the aviation industry during the Covid-19 pandemic.
