Mineral Procurement Policy

In accordance with the Sojitz Group CSR Action Guidelines for Supply Chains, Sojitz Group established a “Mineral Procurement Policy” in October 2022 to ensure responsible mineral procurement.

Mineral Procurement Policy

  • Sojitz Group is committed to procuring minerals responsibly in cooperation with its business partners through the establishment of the following policy in accordance with the Sojitz Group Statement and CSR Action Guidelines for Supply Chains.
  • We take thorough in-house measures to prevent the procurement of minerals from mining sites involved in the illegal activities described in Annex II, paragraphs 1 through 14 of the “OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas," and we also take measures to ensure the traceability of minerals in accordance with the OECD Guidelines. We only handle traceable minerals in accordance with OECD guidelines.

<Scope>

This policy applies to gold, tin, tantalum, and tungsten ("conflict minerals") procured by Sojitz and its consolidated subsidiaries from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and neighboring countries.

Implementation

Sojitz Group will join a third-party certification organization that provides a supply chain monitoring program compliant with OECD guidelines and establish a management system that can objectively identify and verify the origin of the conflict minerals that Sojitz Group procures. In addition, as a measure unique to Sojitz Group, we will periodically conduct unannounced inspections of mines and suppliers and continue to publicly disclose the results of these inspections.
Sojitz Group will take corrective measures in the event that significant risks are identified within our supply chains. Sojitz Group requests that all stakeholders, including suppliers, fully understand and cooperate with Group policies and implement responsible mineral procurement practices.
