Developing Fair Trade Certified Products

“We want to practice responsiblemanufacturing while considering theenvironment. We want to contribute to theadvancement of developing countriesthrough Fair Trade.” Those aspirations ledto Sojitz Group company Daiichibo Co.,Ltd.’s decision to participate in Fair Trade.

In January 2013, Daiichiboobtained a Fairtrade certification(registration) and license underthe standards set by FairtradeLabelling OrganizationsInternational (FLO), becomingthe first integrated manufacturerof textiles in Japan to beregistered as a manufacturer ofFairtrade-certified products.

Fair Trade is a trade systemaimed at improving the lives and establishing theautonomy of producers and workers in developingcountries through the continuous purchase of rawmaterials and products from those countries at fair prices.Daiichibo uses FLO-certified cotton from Senegal, whichis strong and pliable, in integrated production from spinningto sewing at its own factories. The company plans toexpand the use of Fair Trade cotton in its products, whichinclude T-shirts, reusable shopping bags andundergarments.
