Sojitz Completes 3rd Domestic Solar Power Plant in Chita Mihama, Aichi Prefecture; Begins Commercial Operations
Oct. 1, 2015
Sojitz Corporation
On October 1st, Sojitz Corporation (“Sojitz”) held a ceremony to commemorate the completion of the Chita Mihama Solar Power Plant, operated by wholly-owned Sojitz subsidiary Mirai Power (Chita Mihama) Corporation (Head office: Uchisaiwaicho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Masakazu Hashimoto).
The plant is one of several utility-scale solar power projects which Sojitz has been developing within Japan using their expertise gained through the management of a similar solar power project in Germany since 2010. It began commercial operations this past September, joining their two other projects in Koshimizu, Hokkaido and Nishiki, Kumamoto, which have been operating since 2014.
The Chita Peninsula receives ample sunlight, and the project utilizes an old factory site, making effective use of the area’s resources. The plant’s total energy output is approximately 12.9 megawatts, enough to cover electrical consumption for about 3,500 households. Power generated by the plant will supplement Chubu Electric Power Co.’s supply, making use of the Japanese government’s ‘Feed-in Tariff Scheme for Renewable Energy.’
Sojitz will continue actively working towards the expansion of renewable energy in the future, including these domestic projects, to contribute to the creation of a sustainable society.
