Sojitz Corporation plans to advance into the mega solar business with photovoltaic panels with a capacity of 106MW at four locations, Rokkasho-mura （Kamikita-gun, Aomori Prefecture） as well as Shari-gun (Hokkaido), Chita-gun (Aichi Prefecture) and Kuma-gun (Kumamoto Prefecture) with a total project cost of approximately 35 billion yen. Funding will be procured through project finance for each project and operating units for each project, wholly owned by the company, will be set up for their management.

The facility to be constructed at the Mutsu-Ogawara Industrial Park owned by Shin-Mutsu-Ogawara Inc. in Rokkasho-mura will be a power plant with a capacity of 71MW through the installation of about 270,000 photovoltaic cell modules, sufficient to supply electrical power annually to about 19,000 households. Construction is set to start in April 2014 with operations expected to start by the end of 2016. All of the power generated will be sold to Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc.

Sojitz is developing solar generating operations (total generating capacity 24MW) in Germany. With the addition of its domestic mega solar business, the company aims to develop an infrastructure for renewable energy generating operations and is accumulating expertise for operation development and management.

Using its business infrastructure and expertise, the company intends to actively promote renewable energy generating business both in Japan and abroad.
