Sojitz Corporation (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President & CEO: Masayoshi Fujimoto; “Sojitz”), MIRAIT One Corporation (Head Office: Koto-ku, Tokyo; President and Chief Executive Officer: Toshiki Nakayama; “MIRAIT One”), and ShirokumaPower Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Kanzo Tanimoto; “ShirokumaPower”) have installed solar carports and rooftop solar power generation at Nasu Garden Outlet, which is operated by Sojitz Commerce Development Corporation (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Hiroki Kashiwagi; "SCDC”), and began generating electricity and supplying power to the shopping center on March 1 as part of their efforts to contribute to increasing the value of the facility through decarbonization solutions and other measures.

At Nasu Garden Outlet, the eastern parking lot has carports with a 625.4kW output for 208 vehicles (including the priority parking area), and the building’s roof has a solar panel system with a 306.4kW capacity installed, which will reduce annual CO2 emissions by 387.4t. The introduction of these solar carports will promote the reduction of CO2 emissions through the use of renewable energy and improve corporate value, while at the same time increasing the value of the facility by reducing annual electricity bills.

Sojitz, MIRAIT One Corporation, and ShirokumaPower aim to install energy-saving solar carports and rooftop solar power generation with a total 100MW generation capacity at shopping centers as well as golf courses, factories, supermarkets, hospitals, local government offices, theme parks, airports, and other facilities, thereby helping to both promote carbon neutrality in Japan through the popularization of large-scale carports and to increase the value of the facilities where solar carports are installed.

●Background
Nasu Garden Outlet is “a new style of shopping outlet that offers a resort-like experience in which space, time and spirit are all on a plane of luxury.” Nasu Garden Outlet is the gateway to the Nasu area for visitors. As a resort-like shopping center in a forested location, Nasu Garden Outlet attracts visitors from a wide area and communicates the charms of the Nasu region.

In recent years, demand for carbon neutrality has rapidly increased as a result of greater awareness of extreme weather and global warming. Furthermore, soaring energy rates have placed a heavy burden on electricity costs in terms of overall operation and management costs in the shopping center business, prompting the companies decision to install solar carports and rooftop solar generation equipment.

Construction at Nasu Garden Outlet began in October 2023, and installation was completed in approximately two months. The construction was completed in a short period of time by devising a special solar carport construction method, which shortened the time the parking lot was occupied due to construction. Reducing the number of pillars while maintaining the strength of the structure reduced costs and made parking easier. The solar carports protect against rain and sunlight, improve convenience for visitors, and provide a clean energy supply for the commercial shopping center as a decarbonization solution that benefits all three parties—the customers, the tenant companies, and the facility operation management.
