Sojitz Wins Runner-Up Prize at IT Japan Award 2018
Sojitz Tuna Farm Takashima has been developing a bluefin tuna farming business that uses IoT and AI to optimize fish food supply and to improve fish counting operations through AI analysis. The company recently won the Runner-Up Prize at the IT Japan Award 2018 event organized by Nikkei Computer (Nikkei Business Publications, Inc.) in recognition of Sojitz Tuna Farm’s efforts to use IT in their tuna farming operations. On June 13th, the Editor-in-Chief of Nikkei Computer visited Sojitz Tuna Farm Takashima to present President Hiroyuki Oonishi with the award.
The IT Planning Dept. worked on the scheme for the project with outside IT partners. One department member said, “It is challenging to bring IT to the world’s fishermen and oceans. We were able to capitalize on Sojitz Tuna Farm Takashima’s know-how effectively.” Another Sojitz employee from the Foodstuffs & Marine Products Dept., the supervisory organization for Sojitz Tuna Farm Takashima, made a comment saying, “Our performance from now will be even more important.” President Oonishi said, “It is an honor to receive this award, which will motivate us to keep improving our operations on-site.”
