Sojitz Corporation (“Sojitz”) and ZIPAIR Tokyo Inc. (“ZIPAIR”) have reached an agreement under which Sojitz will provide ZIPAIR with 36,000 tons of carbon credits. These credits will contribute to making ZIPAIR’s Tokyo (Narita) to Honolulu flight route carbon neutral from April 2023.*

The carbon credits supplied by Sojitz have been verified by a highly reputable international third-party certifier that recognizes carbon credits for U.S. forestry projects effectively reducing CO2 emissions, and these credits can be utilized as part of the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) stipulated by the International Civil Aviation Organization.

The carbon credits sold to ZIPAIR will be utilized to offset carbon emissions for the company’s Narita-Honolulu flights operated in FY2023. ZIPAIR aims to accelerate environmental initiatives, including the use of carbon credits.

In Sojitz’s Medium-term Management Plan 2023, the company positions the global move towards carbon neutrality as a business opportunity. In order to contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society, Sojitz will continue to expand its decarbonization-related businesses. In addition to sales of carbon credits, Sojitz will leverage its existing customer networks to promote carbon-neutral fuels and products and will strive to create a sustainable society through its business activities.
