Sojitz Logistics Corporation (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Masaatsu Hirakawa; “SLC”) has received certification as an AEO (Authorized Economic Operator) from Tokyo Customs. President Hirakawa received the certificate itself at ceremony held earlier today.

The AEO program aims to increase convenience by enabling business operators with superlative cargo security management systems and compliance frameworks to be certified as AEOs by the Director-General of Customs, thereby simplifying and expediting customs clearance. It was first introduced as an international framework in response to the rising need for counterterrorism measures following the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Sojitz Group will use this certification to strengthen SLC’s customs clearance functions, speeding up and streamlining internal procedures to provide customers with higher quality logistics services. In 2017, Japan will implement an “easing of regulations on import/export declaration offices,” and this will apply to AEOs as well. This will make it possible to complete customs declarations remotely and is expected to make clearing customs a much more convenient process.

Using this AEO certification to further strengthen our logistics functions, raise the Group’s added value, and respond to customers’ diverse needs, Sojitz Group aims to further refine our functions as a trading company.
