Dec. 11, 2014
Sojitz Corporation
A ceremony to celebrate the completion of Kuma Nishikimachi Solar Power Plant, located in Nishikimachi, Kuma-gun, Kumamoto Prefecture, took place today, December 11, 2014. This power plant— completed on November 30th and commencing commercial operation on December 1st—is fully owned by Mirai Power (Kuma Nishikimachi) Corporation (head office: Uchisaiwai-cho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; president: Masakazu Hashimoto), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sojitz.
The project, which makes use of know-how that Sojitz acquired through the mega solar business that it has been operating since 2010 in Germany, will operate a solar power plant with a total installed capacity of approximately 12.77 MW. This is Sojitz’s second solar power plant and follows the plant in Koshimizu-cho, Shari-gun, Hokkaido, which commenced commercial operations in October 2014. The generating capacity is equivalent to the energy consumption of approximately 3,500 general households. The power generated will be sold to Kyushu Electric Power Company under the Japanese government’s ’Feed-in Tariff Scheme for Renewable Energy’.
Going forward, Sojitz will continue to actively promote its renewable energy business, including its solar power projects, to contribute to the development of a sustainable society.
