Sojitz Corporation announced today that Sojitz Foods Corporation and Sojitz Meat and Agri Corporation, two consolidated foodstuffs subsidiaries, will merge effective April 1, 2010.

The merger by Sojitz Foods and Sojitz Meat and Agri will consolidate the Sojitz Group's food business and facilitate the comprehensive and integrated provision of services to clients. The new Sojitz Foods Corporation will make use of the strengths of its two predecessors while acting as a core company in the Sojitz Group's food business and strengthening functions even further.

Sojitz has a policy of conducting food-related businesses for the Japanese market primarily through Sojitz Foods Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary. Such domestic food-related operations involve sales of food materials and processed foods to the Japanese market, which are carried out by the Foods Resources Unit, part of Sojitz's Consumer Lifestyle Business Division. In accordance with this policy, a portion of Sojitz Corporation's food-related business was transferred to Sojitz Foods via a corporate separation on October 1, 2009.
