Sojitz Foods Corporation (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Hirofumi Takeda; a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sojitz Corporation) herein announces a recall of the 'Beef Tongue Jerky' product, which the company sold in Yamagata and Akita prefectures through its Sendai Branch.

'Beef Tongue Jerky', a product manufactured by Tontarou Y.K. (Head office: 6-12 Neriushi, Misato-machi, Toda-gun, Miyagi prefecture; President: Ryuichi Suzuki), uses 'smoked beef tongue tips' imported in January 2006 from the Tianyang Food Plant in China.

The products subject to recall announced by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare on January 31, 2008 cover products that were imported during the period of January 2007 to January 2008. Although the 'Beef Tongue Jerky' product does not fall into such a category, it has been decided that the product should be recalled so to make assurance doubly sure.
