Sojitz Corporation (“Sojitz”) has established Phenix Jet International, LLC (Head Office: Guam; Representative Director: Takuaki Manganji; “PJI”), a business jet operations support and chartering subsidiary in the U.S., and begins sales under the “Phenix Jet” brand name. At the same time, Sojitz will conduct a partial equity injection into ACP Jet Charters, Inc. (Head Office: Florida; Representative Director: Paul Schembari; “ACP”), a U.S. business jet air control company, thereafter utilizing ACP’s Federal Aircraft Administration-issued permit for international non-scheduled air services to provide a one-stop, integrated service including flight administration.

In addition to the ACP’s optimum safety rating, the Phenix Jet brand will provide a Japanese level of hospitality, honed through Sojitz’s experience in corporate aircraft. Furthermore, Sojitz will set up a regional office for PJI in Hong Kong to act as another operating base for the company’s air control service, similar to their office in Japan. In this way, the business will aim to acquire new customers in the Asia region while working to expand services in alignment with customers’ needs.

Business jets can set flight paths freely, even in regions without scheduled flights, and they greatly reduce travel time and provide added security. This has led to greater use of private jets as a tool for business, especially for Western companies, with this sentiment gradually spreading to Japan as they gain recognition as a convenient travel option. Additionally, demand for business jets continues to increase dramatically amongst the wealthy in Asia, with experts predicting new demand to exceed 1,000 aircraft within the next 10 years.

Sojitz was one of the first companies in Japan to start a private jet business back in 2003 and has been providing air operations management services for business jets in Japan since 2005. Moving forward, Sojitz aims to capture growing demand in greater Asia and further improve the company’s business jet services.
