We would like to express our deepest condolences and sympathies to the victims of the T Great East Japan Earthquake.

In addition to a donation of 100 million yen made by the Group to help with reconstruction following the disaster, Sojitz Corporation is setting up a reconstruction and education fund.

The Sojitz reconstruction and education fund is intended to help university students who are now in a situation where it is economically difficult for them to attend university because of the disaster. For the five year period from 2011 to 2015, 30 students will be selected each year (150 in total) to receive a scholarship grant. The scheme will continue for eights years from 2011 to 2018. The benefits will be provided through the Japan Educational Exchanges and Services and beneficiaries will receive 70,000 yen per month for a maximum of four years. (Details about the selection process can be found on our website.)

Sojitz has been actively involved in education for over 20 years. The Sojitz Foundation established in 1988 has been used to support various education-related initiatives, such as the donation of grants to overseas students studying in Japan and funding for the International Student Conference with the aim of promoting international exchange.

Under the theme of “working towards a brighter future for the people and local community”, the Sojitz Group will continue to use the resources at its disposal to support activities related to the reconstruction of the Tohoku area following the earthquake and tsunami disaster. This is our contribution to the rehabilitation of the people, our partners and business in the disaster affected regions.
