Sojitz Korea Corporation, a Korean subsidiary of Sojitz Corporation, and Hitachi Ltd. received an order from Korea’s Public Procurement Service for a straddle-type monorail system in Daegu Metropolitan City in September 2008. The order is for monorail vehicles and core systems including the signaling system. This will be the first urban transit monorail system introduced in South Korea.

Sojitz operates Hyundai Motor (Thailand) Co. Sojitz is currently participating in electric power projects in countries around the world including Vietnam, Mexico, and Sri Lanka. In 2010, Sojitz received orders for three major projects: the Riyadh IPP (1,7120 MW) in Saudi Arabia and the Barka 3 (744 MW) and Sohar 3 (744 MW) in Oman. The majority of these projects are for thermal power plants that operate on natural gas, and the projects form electric power assets that are expected to generate stable and well-balanced income in various regions. Sojitz will actively seek new projects with a focus on regions in Southeast Asia and the Persian Gulf where it has strengths. Sojitz will also form alliances with ideal partners for electric power facility (generation, transformation, and distribution) EPC and equipment supply and provide added value in the form of setting up financing to expand business, particularly in the Middle East and Asia.

The greatest strength of Sojitz’s Bearing Business is the unique development of a dealer network for product sales extending throughout China and a supply chain for the supply of components required in bearing production. Sojitz received an order for 18 lines with 692 sets of draw-texturing machines manufactured by TMT Machinery for use in polyester fiber plants by the Zhejiang Tiansheng Holding Group in May 2010. Demand for polyester is rising rapidly in China, and Shaoxing Yifeng Chemical Fiber Co. Ltd, a Zhejiang Tiansheng Group company, has already installed 800,000 tons of synthetic fiber equipment. A new contract has now been signed for a new plant to be constructed in the Binhai Industrial Park in Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province, which is expected to start operating in 2011. TMT Machinery was established in 2002 through joint investment by three of Japan’s leading synthetic fiber equipment manufacturers (Toray Engineering Co., Ltd., Murata Machinery, Ltd., and Teijin Seiki Co., Ltd. (now, Nabtesco)) and has thus far built up an extensive track record of introductions primarily in China but also in Brazil (CITEPE) and other countries.
